Okay, Okay, so I am scary looking. You can use me as a threat. (Behave or I will send you to Art school) So far, I have one student, and she is still alive and happy to come to class (I think) See what she is doing!

About me:

I grew up in Owatonna and feel I owe my success to the  art teachers I had here in high school and post high in Mankato.  My parents also contributed by paying for tutoring and that has served me well.  When I got out into the real world of commercial art, I had an advantage over my competitors, and that was the fact that I could illustrate.

I have taught at Commons House (an alternative High School) in Minneapolis, and at the Duluth Art Institute.  I am most often asked to work with talented kids who are considering art as a profession but I can work with anyone who wants a boost.

About the school:

My classes are very informal and so far, I just have private classes.  If you would like some tutoring and/or have a subject in mind, contact me. I am looking for popular requests and hope to put together some larger classes that make it more affordable. At this point my time is flexable and for private classes, I charge $25 an hour. If you have a teen whom you think might want to pursue art as a career, or one who just wants to hone a skill or interest.  This is a good healthy past time.
Some of the areas I can help you with:

  • Creative drawing.  I call it “significant drawing”.  It actually means something or says something to the viewer.  Such story telling is still alive and well in character drawings, fantasy work, book covers, editorials and so on.
  • Children’s books.  Are you thinking of illustrating one and need a coach?
  • Graphic novels and commercial illustration.
